Advise

The Energy Artisans have an overall approach that is grounded in the basic tenets of investment management applied to the energy commodity markets.  First and foremost, is the “Know your customer” rule, which simply put means understanding what is truly suitable for your customer.   This rule is as critical in financial management as it is in commodity cost management, which has many of the same impacts on clients. Generally, buyers are net short of energy, meaning they will be buying it as long as they exist, but they don’t own it, so the risk of rising prices exceeds the benefit of falling prices. Therefore our process is about continually helping our buyer clients cover their persistent exposure to rising prices cost-effectively in a disciplined fashion documented by a well-defined strategy.

Develop

The Energy Artisans interests go well beyond energy. Our parent company EFW, Inc., represents these interests in development of Energy, Food and Water Incorporated. These foundational elements we believe must be developed effectively to support thriving communities for the future. While energy is the core of our expertise it heavily impacts both food and water development, thus we pursue opportunities to use open markets to positively affect the supply chain of all three resources.

Manage

Our collective experience includes the management of retail and wholesale energy totaling $30 billion, direct membership and membership management of ISO accounts with dense concentration in PJM. Over the last two decades our leaders have been responsible for the creation and management of all aspects of PJM accounts and subaccount buying structures, development and management of 350 MW of merchant and onsite generation as well as running a liquid fuel marketing and delivery businesses with $100 million in sales to government agencies. Members of our group have utility, supplier, finance and engineering experience. We were direct participants in changing PJM’s behind-the-meter (BTM) rules in 2003, implemented the first BTM generator (150 MW) under those revised FERC rules, and developed and implemented the first grid-connected, user directed solar system (3 MW in Somerset County, MD).
